Final Draft

Should we oppose to the death penalty?

The worthless and useless death penalty system should be abolished on Earth with the will of people who strongly oppose to it. We should all think again about the diabolical-(1) and atrocious-(2) murdering system whether to keep it and let it kill priceless human life, or to stand against it and make it stop. There are three reasons why we should oppose to the system. First of all, the idea of reducing major crime rates with maintaining the death penalty is totally wrong. According to the Amnesty International-(A), murder rate of one of the states in America which maintains the death penalty was 17% higher than that of the state which abolished the death penalty. This indicates that maintaining death penalty doesn’t help reducing major crime rates. You can see the indisputable gap between two graphs in the picture on the right. Second, there can be frivolous-(3) misjudge while dealing with the criminal. There are several infamous cases of wrongful execution throughout the world. Laws, judges, systems and justices are all human things. Human can make mistakes. Laws and judges can make mistakes too, but when it comes to the death sentence, it becomes fatal mistakes. What if the person who got killed by the death penalty was not the actual criminal? Who can compensate that? Nobody can. If there is a slight possibility that judges might sentence the criminal wrongly, it’s humanly right to give the man other sentences instead of the death penalty. Final reason is about social impediment. The death penalty is originally generated with the idea of ‘A tooth for a tooth’. However, according to the ‘Psychology of Revenge’ by Michael McCullough-(B), the revenging instinct of human race makes society into a brutal and uncontrolled place, if the upper force like government doesn’t make certain policies for restraining those instincts. It is obvious that, maintaining the death penalty system, foments-(4) negative atmosphere to the society. In conclusion, the death penalty system doesn’t help reducing crimes, might kill somebody innocent by accident and cause dreadful effect in society in long term. For all these reasons, we should stand strongly against the death penalty until it perishes over the world entirely.

Blog Post #5

Production and Ownership of Knowledge

My thoughts about the ownership have been changed a lot after I experienced the activities we did during the semester. I've never used citation and footnotes before, since I didn't know the ownership of knowledge is very important. I also considered my writing, nothing but a simple compiled word. However, as time goes by I figured out that even my writing can be valuable knowledge source. I can insist my ownership of knowledge about the production. Anyone can. These ideas made me think anything valuable. Anything, everything has its ownerships. I should respect all the works people have done. I'm glad that my thoughts have been changed to know about the ownerships during the semester. I guess this semester was a greate one.

About comments

What has the comments others have posted on my blog
taught me about my own writing?

Thankfully enough, some people commented on my blog posts about my writing. They've  pointed out my spelling mistakes that I usually make, corrected my grammar errors, and suggested better sentence structures for me to write a better paragraph. Every single comments were very helpful to me. They made me to be careful about spellings, to learn more about grammars that I didn't know, and to think before writing about fancy sentence structures.

What have the comments I have posted on other blogs
taught me about writing?

I'v never commented on other students' writing before, so it was very unique and positive experience for me. While commenting on the blog posts of others, I could find a lot of mistakes and errors. It was strange that I couldn't find a single mistake on my own writing when I wrote it, but I was able to find other student's mistake very well. I figured out that this is not because I am better at writing. It's because I simply don't pay attention when writing. The comments I have posted on other blogs taught me the attitude. I should write my writing with the feeling of commenting my own writing just like l did to others.

Reasons and Examples paragraph

Smoking is good for nothing

Smokers should quit smoking as soon as possible for three reasons. First, smoking defects human body badly. According to National Health Insurance Service -(1), carcinogen -(A) rate of smokers is 6.5 times higher than nonsmokers. Smoking will squeeze your life span. Second, smoke made by smokers effect other people around. That means, smokers are harming nonsmokers every second. Research team of the World Health Organization says -(2), six hundred-thousand people over the world die every year due to passive smoking. This is such a public harm that every nonsmokers want to eliminate and, this is why Korea's government decided to expand non-smoking area recently. Final reason is about public order and environment. Smokers tend to spit on the ground anytime abruptly. They also illegally throw cigarette trash on the road. Cigarette butts -(B) are one of the world's biggest garbage and, almost 3.5 trillion cigarette butts are trashed every year. Moreover, contrary to common thoughts, cigarette butts need several years to be decomposed in the soil. -(3) This is a very serious problem to our mother nature. In other words, Smokers are overtly violating public orders and also polluting environments. However, nonsmokers overlook their behaviors because there are so many of them doing it, but it's needless to say that nobody wants public places to become filthy with saliva and trash. In conclusion, smokers should quit smoking if they worry about their own health, other nonsmokers' health, public regulations and environments.

The ideal place for me to concentrate.

I've always wanted to have a place where I can concentrate thoroughly. Although the place does not exist, I can tell anybody about my perfect place precisely. My place's size is about 10 square meters or more. Ceiling is 5 meters above the ground. I want my place to be quite wide and broad, because I hate the feeling of cramped. The wall of my perfect place is covered by plain light blue wallpaper except for the floor. I chose blue to comfort my eyes after a long time of concentration. Eyes get tired so fast these days. The floor should be covered by dark brown rug, and the rug must be all over the floor. I like to study at night, because it's very quite. Since it's too quite, I can clearly hear my feet rubbing the wooden floor of my room. It disturbs me badly. That's why I want my ideal place's floor to be rug all over. There is one big door that connects my place to outside world. It shouldn't have any patterns that might distract me. There is also one long desk made of wood on the right side of the door. The desk is long enough to touch both sides of the wall. Not only the long desk can make my arm move freely, but also it prevents me from wasting my time getting new stuffs from other places. I can just easily fetch, while sitting in my chair to get something new. There are little evergreen plants on the corner of my desk. They indirectly takes me to the heart of Earth's mother nature. It helps me refresh my condition if concentration goes wrong. I don't need any bookshelves. All the books that I need to look, should be on my desk. I also don't need anything that might distracts me from concentrating in my place. I don't need TV, computer, cellphone, toys and even bed. The place is for my genuine concentration, not for resting. I think that's all for the ideal place for me to concentrate. I hope I could get the place I mentioned.

How does where I live (have lived) influence how I live?

I think the place I live can influence my emotional status and my character. My family moved a lot, so it made me live in several different places in my childhood. When I have lived in a province that had few population, I felt quite lonely. Even in school, there were few students. It was nearly impossible to make a soccer team with them. Eventually I became shy and timid.
The circumstances changed when I moved into a big city. Unlike the province, there were lots of people strolling around. I need to go to a new school and make new friends, but I couldn't even remember my classmates' names. There were too many for me to remember. However, it felt good, warm and cozy. I didn't feel lonely anymore since there were lots of friends to hang out. I became outgoing and brave person. I myself couldn't believe what happened to my character, but it actually happened.
Now, I live in such a good place where it has proper amount of population, great transportation, nice restaurants and so on. I'm living with the complex character that was influenced by my former residential places. Now, I'm shy, timid but also outgoing and brave. Where I live didn't influence how I live entirely, but it did influenced my character a bit so that my attitude in living changed a lot.
